Homemade Scones & Jam; Bainbridge Island Day Trip

This year in July, we took a daytrip over to Bainbridge Island which is just a 30-minute ferry ride across the Puget Sound waters.  We have a lot of islands where we are because of the amount of seismic activity we have, so a visit to one of the islands, especially in summer, is a must.

I had a few places I wanted to visit while we were there, and the Bloedel Reserve was at the top of that list.

The Bloedel is a 140 acre arboretum and woodland garden that was created by a timber businessman back in 1951, Prentice Bloedel.

It features a sweeping meadow at the beginning of the trails that take you deep into the heart of the property, where you will find ponds, creeks and every type of native plant that does well in our area:  Rhododendrons, azaleas, candelabra primroses, trillium and ferns just to name a few.

But the real attraction is the residence purchased and renovated by the Bloedels. It still has some of the original furnishings and paintings and the gardens around the house are dreamy when looking out the windows from inside.

The house is perched on a bluff looking out over the waters of the Puget Sound. It’s just glorious.

I was able to capture a short film of my visit there, and it includes other summertime activities such as making strawberry jam and scones along with some other footage of the ordinary goings on of life.

I hope you enjoy it. And I hope you savor the long days and sunshine because before we know it, we’ll be picking apples and wearing our woolen sweaters.
