The Girl of Your Dreams

Who is the girl of your dreams?  What does she look like?  What does she do with her days?

Does she work in a high rise building in the city or is she a flower farmer in the country?

Is she married?  Is she a mom?

Can you describe who she is?

And what about you?  Do you have any of the characteristics of this woman or is that something you’ve ever thought about?

Because I’m here to tell you…  You are what you think.

“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”
– Proverbs 23:7

Your life is what it is because it’s a narrative you keep running and streaming in your mind.

We design our lives every single day without even realizing it.

We use our imaginations to see ourselves doing certain things, being with certain people, and our surroundings look exactly how we imagine them.

But what if you don’t entirely love the setting you’ve placed yourself in?

Or what if a few tweaks are in order?

AND…  what if you knew you could change just about anything to do with how you’re living now?

“A man’s heart devises his way, but the Lord directs his steps”
– Proverbs 16:9

The word “devise” there in the Hebrew language means to:

  • think upon
  • devise a plan
  • invent
  • esteem (value; regard)
  • be considered
  • be mindful of

Your job is to ponder things and plan for how you want your life to be.

And then the next part is really great!

God will direct your steps.

The word “direct” means to:

  • be set up
  • be firmly established
  • be securely determined
  • be prepared
  • furnish
  • arrange
  • order
  • be ready
  • be restored (I like this one)

There are a few more meanings there (you get the idea), but when you come up with a plan, God establishes that plan and sets you up for the success of it.  And there’s a lot more that God does on his side than what you’re actually doing on your side of that plan.  I didn’t even put all the responsibilities that are assigned to God in that scripture.

There is a LOT in the Bible about the power of your imagination and how your thinking will determine who you are and what your life looks like.

All you have to do is imagine.

Are YOU the girl of your dreams?

What does she eat for breakfast?  If it’s something healthier than what you’ve been eating, then now is the time to change it.

You can start with something as small as that.  And when you’ve got that down, what’s the next small thing the girl of your dreams does?

Does she have fresh flowers in a vase on the kitchen table at all times?  If so, head down to the market and get yourself some roses, tulips, peonies, or whatever your favorite flower is and make sure you bring flowers home for yourself on a regular basis.

How about travel?  Does this girl go places?  If so, get that passport updated and plan (devise) a trip to that place you’ve never been but always wanted to see.

What does it smell like?  Are the fragrances different from where you are now?  I can tell you that Tuscany in the spring smells like wisteria and the roses grow straight up toward the sun!

You can begin right now.  Bloom where you’re planted, as they say.  And if you start with just one small seed your garden will grow into a creative, well-designed, well watered and sacred place to be.

Be who God purposed you to be.  Make some changes and gather in that harvest.

I imagined these silver plated luncheon knives from the late 1800s in France. God made sure I got them.
